Jacob Fowler - Coach Profile - SKC 2017-2021

How did you get involved in coaching at SKC?

My Father

What sports do/have you played?

I have played Basketball, Rugby, Cricket and Touch.

Have you played any sport at a representative level?

Last year, I was a part of the North Otago Hawke Cup team for cricket; I also played age-group Cricket and Basketball for North Otago.

What is your favourite part about coaching?

I really enjoy seeing the kids develop over the course of the season and watching their confidence and enjoyment of the sport grow. I also love to beat bigger sporting schools that we shouldn't be beating.

What is your personal coaching philosophy?

I'm really big on skill development, so my coaching philosophy is to provide my players with the skills and knowledge they need to develop their game and play at any level they want.

Speak about a challenge you've faced and what you did to get through it. Sporting or otherwise.

I had knee surgery my first year out of school, which took me out of sports for a year. This was a big challenge for me because I spent the majority of my time playing sports. Thankfully, around that time, I started coaching, and that helped me stay involved with sports and kept me occupied as I recovered.

Advice to young sportspeople?

You only get one shot at high school sports, so get stuck in, work hard, and make sure you enjoy it because it goes by pretty quickly.

Favourite quote? Sporting or otherwise

"Shoot the ball!" - Jacob Fowler.
