There are a range of scholarships and bursaries
available, both Government sponsored and those available from
St Kevin's College.
GOVERNMENT BURSARIES
Boarding Bursary ($2,725 per annum)
(a) Where the home is located 4.8 or more kilometres from the
nearest point of
embarkation provided by a transport service to a state school.
(b) Where a medical certificate states that the child is suffering
from such specified
illness or physical disability that precludes travelling between
home and school.
(c) Where parents are serving overseas on NZ government business.
(d) Where students suffer hardships, by virtue of the time during
a school day when
they would, in order to attend school, be absent from home (usually
picked up
before 7.30 am and set down after 5.00 pm).
(e) In Years 11,12 and 13 and candidates for an external examination
to preserve
continuity of education for the remainder of that school year.
(f) Where a pupil requires special education which is not available
at their local
school or in the vicinity of the pupil’s home.
(g) Where parents are overseas missionaries.
(h) Where a pupil, while they do not require enrolment in a
special school, class or
clinic, are seriously at risk in their educational, social or
emotional development
because of important continuing unsatisfactory features in their
home and/or
social environment.
(i) Where parents move to undertake itinerant or relieving employment
and for
whom board away from home is considered necessary to preserve
continuity of
the pupil’s education.
Secondary School Bursaries ($2,725 per
annum)
These bursaries may be awarded to -
(a) Y12 pupils who are studying at least four NCEA Level 2 certificate
subjects where
more than one of those subjects is not available locally and
must be studied by
correspondence.
(b) Y13 pupils who are studying at least four subjects of the
NCEA Level 3 certificate
where more than one of those subjects is not available locally
and must be
studied by correspondence.
Secondary School Technical Bursaries
($2,725)
These bursaries may be awarded to pupils in Years 10 and 11
who are studying an
agriculture subject or a workshop subject where these are not
available locally.
ST KEVIN'S COLLEGE
SCHOLARSHIPS
Joseph Aspell Scholarship ($1,500 per annum)
For current or prospective boarding students where financial
circumstances may prevent the student from continuing or enrolling
at St Kevin’s and where the student will be likely to
make a positive contribution to the college.
Christian Brothers’ Scholarship
($1,500 per annum)
For current or prospective boarding students where financial
circumstances may prevent the student from continuing or enrolling
at St Kevin’s and where the student will be likely to
make a positive contribution to the college.
St Kevin’s College Foundation Fund
The Foundation makes some funds available each year to assist
parents to pay boarding fees where a lack of finance might otherwise
make it very difficult for their son or daughter to attend St
Kevin’s. This is usually limited to $1,000 per year to
any given family.
