SPECIAL
CHARACTER
Our Special Character is based on gospel values
and Catholic teaching, providing students with a yet another opportunity
to develop holistically. The Catholic Character of the College
provides the framework through which the whole school curriculum
is delivered. It is integral to everything that takes place in
the school, or on behalf of the school and its community.
The student leadership team lead school liturgies using the model
of servant leadership. Religious Studies classes present the weekly
assembly liturgies and for many students this is the first time
that they speak on stage. The school year begins with a Welcome
Liturgy in the Chapel, all staff are involved and students are
introduced to the charism and philosophy of the school. Our College
has the dual charisms of the Christian Brothers (Edmund Rice )
and the Dominican Sisters. At the Welcome Liturgy, students are
reminded that we all work together to unwrap their gifts and talents
so that they gain the confidence to achieve to their potential.
In the second week of the school year our student leaders receive
their badges at the Prefects Investiture Mass. Through the celebration
of key liturgical feasts during the year, students gain both a
sense of belonging to the wider church family and an appreciation
of tradition.
Inherent in our Special Character is the culture of service.
The College has three service groups: Young Vinnies, Edmund Rice
and Justice Awareness. In Yr 12 Students are encouraged to complete
the Edmund Rice Certificate of Service, requiring ten hours of
voluntary service in the community.
Underpinning our Special Character is the central gospel message
“treat others as you wish to be treated” and this
is evident in the school culture, helping with overall discipline
and expectations.
From the latest ERO Report 2007.
“Well articulated shared values support students’
learning.”
