St Kevin's College Broadcast Academy 

Oamaru's local TV station, 45 South, have their studio based in the Auditorium at St Kevin's College, Redcastle and provide the practical mentorship to our Broadcast Academy students.

The academy is flexible in structure with students being able to tailor the course to their personal needs. 

A typical course would involve:
  • Media Studies delivered in by the Humanities Faculty. 21 achievement standard credits at Level 2 and 3 are offered to cover the concepts used in the industry.
  • Digital Technology standards to build video editing and post production skills. 8 achievement standard credits at Level 2 and 3 are offered as the core skills module. This can be augmented with more standards as required.
Practical mentoring on either a Friday or during the school day on a period by period basis to develop the following skills:
  • Studio craft 
  • News and field reporting
  • Interviewing technique
  • Computer control
  • Production and editing
  • Camera and technical
  • Documentary development
  • Graphic design
The remaining time allows for literacy, numeracy and special character requirements to be met. 

The objective is for candidates to achieve NCEA Level 3, gain University Entrance and create a portfolio of work for a prospective employer or trainer.
